Twin Cities Bronze Audition Information

Membership in Twin Cities Bronze offers individuals the opportunity to explore their potential as a musician, increase their skills as a handbell ringer and contribute to the growth, development and recognition of the Twin Cities premiere handbell ensemble.

Membership in Twin Cities Bronze is a life changing experience and recognizes the contributions of the individual to the ensemble. The traits most important for individuals to possess are: commitment, positive attitude and aptitude.

The mission statement of the organization has guided all members, past, present and future:

As educators, to share our technical knowledge of this unique medium
As artists, to showcase the diversity of handbells through innovative performances
As friends, to support each other and have fun!

Prior to the audition, interested individuals are asked to submit an application. Information sought in the application:

The audition itself consists of four parts:

  1. Written test:
    • Measures knowledge, recognition and definitions of handbell terminology and notation as well as a fundamental recognition of basic music theory structure in handbell literature.
  2. Group sight ringing of up to four handbell compositions, marked in the assignment scheme of Twin Cities Bronze: 11 ringers for 5-6 octaves handbells.
    • The sight-ringing portion of the audition is videotaped for reference and reviewal during the ensuing selection process.
  3. Individual skills test:
    • Based on rhythm and coordination skills drills and exercises
  4. One-on-one interview with the Artistic Director
    • Questions cover topics such as commitment, scheduling, interest and desire to be in the ensemble and acceptance of membership, if selected.

Auditions are held annually and every position in the ensemble is open.
